Kestrel Potatoes are the delightful purple-spotted potatoes found at all good supermarkets.  According to the packaging, they’re good for mashing, roasting, boiling and frying.

Challenge

Create a compelling and memorable TV ad which would plant the idea of trying Kestrel firmly in the minds of grocery-buyers.

What went on

Selling potatoes is easier when they’re covered in spots.

Working with Adelaide agency THEM Advertising, we were given enough rope to write a simple TV commercial which was designed to be visually arresting and not at all potatoey. 

This particular variety of potato has a unique purple blush, which we felt gave it personality.  So we headed down the path of making the Kestrel fun, rather than making it a supermodel – it’s not the sexiest potato at the supermarket after all – and came up with the line: ‘Find a spot on your plate’.

Ad was a finalist in the Advertising Effectiveness Awards.
